Chat reporting and moderation

Last updated on March 9, 2024

Introduction

Chat reporting and moderation is a functionality in the AccelByte Gaming Services (AGS) Admin Portal that empowers players to flag instances and submit reports of inappropriate messaging by other players in the chat interface. Game admins can review reports and take action against the reported player by issuing a warning or imposing a penalty (such as bans), depending on the severity and nature of the violation. This aims to maintain a respectful and safe gaming environment by upholding community standards and addressing misconduct promptly and appropriately.

This functionality allows your players to submit reports for the following categories:

  • User-Generated Content (UGC)
  • Chat messages
  • Players

AGS allows you to handle these reports by using auto-moderation rules that automate actions on reports based on terms that you set and a manual report management system that allows you to individually review reports and select a moderation action as necessary.

How the feature works

The following diagram shows a sample scenario of how chat reporting and moderation works in AGS. When Player A receives a message from Player B that violates community guidelines (defined by game each or client), Player A can take action by reporting Player B's. A report (ticket) is then created for the Player A's report. A game admin can review the report and look at the chat history and snapshot between Player A and Player B. If the game admin finds that Player B violated community guidelines, they can take action by banning Player B and preventing Player B from sending messages to any player for a period of time. Moderation actions may vary per report type.
